Top 10 things to do in Dubrovnik

Updated: Jan 10

Dubrovnik, located on the Adriatic coast of Croatia, is a beautiful city known for its historic old town, stunning architecture, and picturesque landscapes. Here are the top 10 things to do in Dubrovnik:

city walls
  • Walk the City Walls: Take a walk on top of the impressive medieval city walls that surround the Old Town. This allows you to enjoy panoramic views of the city, the Adriatic Sea, and the surrounding islands. Sunset or early morning walks are particularly magical.

Get the city pass for €35 and enjoy other sights. Go early and take comfy shoes, water and hat it gets very hot and there are many steps. It tooks us 2,5h, but we were stopping to take in all the beauty and all those photos.

Rector's palace
  • Explore the Rector's Palace: Step back in time at the Rector's Palace, which served as the seat of power in Dubrovnik during the Republic era. Admire the beautiful architecture and explore the museum inside, which displays artifacts and artworks.

  • Indulge in delicious seafood and Croatian specialities. Try oysters at @edulis.oysterbar and have a lunch or dinner in my favourite @lady_pi_pi , be prepared to queue as they don't accept bookings, but I promise it is worth it.

sunset spot
  • Take a Cable Car Ride: Ride the cable car to the top of Mount Srd for breathtaking views of Dubrovnik and the surrounding area. Enjoy a meal or a drink at the restaurant while taking in the panoramic vistas. The return cable car ride is €27.

  • Watch a sunset from mount Srd: The most iconic sunset spot in Dubrovnik, come early and enjoy the view.

  • Explore Lokrum Island: Take a short ferry ride from Dubrovnik to Lokrum Island. This nature reserve offers pristine beaches, walking trails, botanical gardens, and even a small saltwater lake. Don't miss the opportunity to visit the Benedictine monastery and the iconic Iron Throne from Game of Thrones.

Old town
  • Visit the Dubrovnik Cathedral: The Dubrovnik Cathedral, also known as the Assumption Cathedral, is a beautiful Baroque-style church with an impressive treasury. Marvel at the artwork, including the stunning polyptych by Titian.

  • Swim at Banje Beach: Enjoy some sun, sand, and sea at Banje Beach, one of the most popular beaches in Dubrovnik. Relax on the pebbly shore, take a dip in the crystal-clear waters, or indulge in water sports activities. Just don't fall for over charged sunbed, in summer months it will cost you up €65 for 2 sunbeds and parasol.

Stairs of shame
  • Take a Game of Thrones Tour: Dubrovnik served as a filming location for the iconic TV series Game of Thrones. Join a guided tour to explore the various filming sites, including the Red Keep (Fort Lovrijenac), the Walk of Shame (Stradun), and the House of the Undying (Minčeta Tower).

You can book the tour here.

  • Stroll early through Stradun and enjoy all the ice cream you can get. The average price is €2.50 per scoop and my favourite was @gelateriadubrovnik

These are just a few of the many wonderful things to do in Dubrovnik. The city offers a perfect blend of history, culture, natural beauty, and cinematic allure, making it a truly memorable destination.
